Flokati area rugs can highlight your room’s decor by matching the room’s color scheme or introducing a new color into the mix. Because flokati rugs are plush and luxurious, they can help establish your home as being a cozy, welcoming space.
Decorating with a Flokati Rug
Flokati rugs are almost always thick and plush, although you’ll find some rugs use the flokati sparingly to establish a pattern in high-low designs. Regardless, these rugs can convey softness and comfort within your design. Because Flokati is a general composition of a rug and not a particular design style, these rugs can come in multiple sizes, patterns, and colors. You can choose flokati rugs that are sheepskin, shag, brown, gray, and even other colors like oranges and blues. This goes to show that no matter what style you lean towards, you can find a flokati rug that fits your niche.
How To Clean a Flokati Rug
Some details of how to clean your flokati rug will differ depending on the size of your rug. However, here are guidelines that apply to all flokati area rug sizes.
Shake Your Flokati. The first step in cleaning your Flokati rug is to shake it out outdoors to work out as much dirt and dust as you can.
Air Out Your Flokati: To keep your rug smelling and feeling fresh, allow it to hang outdoors for a few hours. Doing so will help the wool regain oxygen and enhance the fibers in the rug. Be sure to avoid direct sunlight, though.
Washing the Rug (Small Rug)
If your Flokati is smaller (24 square feet or less), you can wash your Flokati in a washing machine. Set your machine to delicate, and if needed, add in a mild soap used for woolens. You can also add in some fabric softener if you want.
When your rug is washed, hang it so that it fully dries. As tempting as it is, don’t place your Flokati rug in a dryer.
Once your rug is dry, brush your rug with a metal brush like one that you’d use to brush a dog. Begin at the center of the rug and continue outward to fluff the rug and restore its fullness and plushness.
Washing the Rug (Larger Rug)
If your rug is 24 square feet or larger, you likely can’t fit it inside of a washing machine. Spray your rug with cold water from a spray bottle, and then brush using the same technique described for the smaller rug while it’s damp.
Shake out your rug after brushing, since there’s most likely moisture trapped deeper in the rug. Allow it to completely dry before you take it back inside.
Note: Shedding. When you’re brushing out your Flokati rug, you may see some of the wool fibers get caught in the brush. That’s natural and is nothing to be alarmed at.
