A striped rug adds great color and pattern to almost any room, whether it be traditional or modern. Choose a classic striped to achieve a sophisticated, aesthetic that invokes a day on the New England coast, or go with a staggered stripe to complement a room with global appeal.
In my upstate New York project, I used a striped wool rug in both the master bedroom and mudroom. In the master bedroom, the subtle blush and neutral stripe created the perfect foundation to complement the light green and wood accents in the room. In the mudroom, a more graphic, black striped rug offers a contrast in a more casual space.
Don't be afraid of mixing metals in the same room. Not everything has to match - this is what gives a room personality and character. Just make sure that there's a nice balance of each finish represented to achieve a look that's cohesive. For more home decorating tips, please visit my website: elizabethlawsondesign.com.
