An earth area rug can highlight your room’s decor by bringing in those earthy tones, emphasizing your color palette, and adding your style to the room. The key in choosing a rug is to find one that connects to your room’s decor; that way, the rug and decor all work together towards the same style goal and create a unified room.
The beauty of earth area rugs is that they are extremely versatile. You can find rugs that stick to greens and browns as the primary color palette, but even within that scheme, you have so many options of different color tones and patterns. That’s not even accounting for other colors you can use, textures to choose from, and patterns in a variety of styles. This just goes to show how versatile earth rugs are and how you can truly find one to fit your personal style.
As you shop for the earth area rug that’s perfect for you, consider these primary areas.
Position: Step one is to take a close look at your room and decide on your room’s layout. Of course, each space is unique, so take these general guidelines as ideas to get you started with rug placement.
Living Room: If you want to accentuate your main living area, center an earth area rug in the middle of that space. Depending on the size of the living room, you can layer the rug far beneath the seats, under their front legs, or right in front of the chairs. Bathrooms: Bathrooms will use similar sized rugs to kitchens, but they can be placed in a few different ways. Use those smaller rugs in front of any sinks, tubs, or showers, or use a runner to highlight a double vanity or narrow path.

Shape/Size: Next up, finalize the size and shape of your rug. The most common shapes to work with are round, rectangular, and runner, but those certainly aren’t the only choices. When it comes to both shape and size, choose options that convey your desired tone and appear visually balanced with the rest of the room/furniture.
Pattern: Since earth tones are a common scheme in many styles, you’ll find a variety of patterns to choose from. Designs spread out over the gambit of vintage tilework, modern shapes, all the way to faraway lands or homey farmhouses. The pattern you choose should fit into your favorite style and work with your decor to firmly establish your theming.
Color: When it comes to earth area rugs, you have a wide array of earthy colors like browns, beiges, clays, reds, and so many more. Within that, look at different finishes and fabrics that impact the appearance and physical feel of the texture; for example, a woven earth rug has a different color tone than a rug with colors printed on. Ultimately, your color palette and texture should convey the proper tone and use similar colors to the rest of your decor.
